Obituary

Gael E. Doane, 86, of Grinnell, died Saturday, November 30, 2024, at his home with family by his side.

Please join us for a time of fellowship, memories and luncheon to celebrate Gael and Linda Doane. Our Celebration will be held Sunday, August 3, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Cox-Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. A private burial will take place in Hazelwood Cemetery. Gael was born on March 17, 1938, at home near Kellogg, Iowa, to Jettison and Alle Jenece (Iosbaker) Doane. He attended Lynnville-Sully schools. On August 29, 1959, he married Linda Vieth, in Lynnville, Iowa. He proudly served his country in the Navy. Gael worked at Donaldson’s for 41 years, retiring in 2000.

He enjoyed hunting squirrels, deer and his favorite, pheasants. Camping, trapping, fishing and gardening were some of his pastimes. Gael had a knack for his whit and wisdom that will be missed.

He will be remembered by his wife, Linda of Grinnell; children, Becky McDaniel and Bud (Kristy) Doane, all of Grinnell; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brother, Gary (Laurie) Adams of Caldwell, Idaho; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, Cat (she followed him everywhere).

Gael was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, William Adams.
